And yes I agre= e that multimedia is a patent minefield but there are open source versions = of most media formats that could be used if needed. But that is besides the= point here, the library would only provide a standardized interface of how= to interact with audio(or other signal types) and place only the needed co= nstraints on the implementors of the library.
