The basic audio primitives are playing and recording. These are essentially I/O (write and read) operations. Therefore I would base them on io_context from Networking TS, so we can have both synchronous and asynchronous audio operations. That way we have not imposed an audio pipeline architecture. Such a low-level audio API should not include things like decoding, demuxing, resampling, or signal processing.
