We only care about the one that comes from the C and C++ standards. You can=
=20
find it in 1.7 [intro.memory]. It says:

"The fundamental storage unit in the C ++ memory model is the byte."
"The memory available to a C ++ program consists of one or more sequences o=
f=20
contiguous bytes. Every byte has a unique address."

That last sentence means *exactly* that memory must be byte-addressable. I=
=20
don't see how there can be any confusion.
