If people are interested in these issues, and haven't yet read the following
paper, they are in for a treat:

Reinhold, M.B.  "Cache Performance of Garbage-Collected Programs".  PLDI'94,
ACM Sigplan Notices 29, 6 (June 1994), 206-217.  (It _may_ be on the
net.  Reinhold works for NEC in New Jersy, I believe.)
